The lake is on the Tavignano river near to its source below the 1,883 metres (6,178 ft) Bocca a Reta. It is on the boundary between the communes of Casamaccioli and Corte . The river flows through marshy land above and below the lake. [1]

Around Lake Nino, a large number of semi-wild horses graze. You can go back the same way to the Poppaghia car park (about 1.5 hours). Alternatively, you can join the nearby GR20 and walk north-westwards past the peaks of Capu and Tozzu (2,007 m), then over the Col de St-Pierre (1,452 m) to the Bocca San Pedru saddle, where you turn right and reach the D85 road.

Le lac de Nino (ou Ninu) a une superficie de 6,5 hectares et 12 mètres de profondeur. C'est le deuxième lac le plus grand de Corse, après celui de Bettaniella. Il est situé sur le plateau de Camputile et alimente le fleuve du Tavignano (deuxième fleuve de Corse). L'ascension jusqu'au lac est longue certes mais elle vaut le détour.

This route goes along a ridge path which offers magnificent views of Lake Calacuccia, the Cinto Massif and the Gulf of Sagone. The trail reaches Bocca a Reta overlooking the lake.
